INITIAL

Sabre manual

Syntax: INITIAL list of numbers

Purpose:
The INITIAL command is used to specify the starting values for the explanatory variable parameters in a random effects model.

Note that parameters which will be intrinsically aliased during the model fit should not be included, and that factor levels should be initialised in reverse order starting from the highest level and working backwards. If this command is not used, then initial values for the heterogeneous model are obtained from the homogeneous model. The values supplied will only be used for FIT commands; if the FIT . command is used, then the parameter estimates from the previous model fit will be used as starting values for the next fit. Initial estimates for the scale and end-point parameters may be specified using the SCALE and ENDPOINTS commands respectively.
